RUSHINGTON, former hamlet in Eling, district of Totton
Not recorded till late. If ancient, perhaps hypothetical Old English 'Riscentun'='rushy farm', and cf 'Ruskington' (Lincolnshire). 'Rum Bridge' is the bridge carrying the A35 over Bartley Water. It is really a separate place. The stream was earlier forded at the adjacent BROKENFORD.
